Pitching: always necessary, or are there better alternatives?
As an event agency, we at Act-Wise are often asked to participate in a pitch. It makes sense: a pitch seems to be the quickest way to compare agencies. But is it always the best way? Certainly in the events sector, there is something to be said for that.
The downside of a pitch
A pitch may sound simple and inexpensive, but in practice it requires a lot of time and energy – both for the organising company and for the participating agencies. Every agency puts a great deal of creativity, preparation and resources into a proposal, but in the end only one is chosen. This can lead to a waste of ideas and resources.
What’s more, a pitch also requires an investment on your part: writing a clear briefing, assessing multiple proposals, getting to know different teams again… Time that could also be spent directly on preparing your event.
Permanent collaboration = greater value
That is why we strongly believe in the power of long-term partnerships. When you work with an agency on a long-term basis, you build mutual trust and efficiency. We get to know your brand, culture and preferences, and you know exactly what to expect from us. This results in shorter lines of communication, faster turnaround times and better results.
In other words: less time wasted on ‘introductions’ and more time for what really matters – creating strong events.
How could it be?
A pitch is therefore not the only way to start together. Consider, for example:
- A chemistry meeting: a brief, personal introduction to see if there is a connection;
- A test project or smaller assignment: ideal for getting to know each other without the burden of a big pitch;
- A transparent evaluation after an initial collaboration: this way, you know immediately whether the collaboration leaves you wanting more.
In conclusion
A pitch can be useful, but it is not always the best or most efficient route. In many cases, a permanent collaboration yields more: certainty, time savings and a more creative impact.
At Act-Wise, we are always open to pitches. They do have some advantages:
- A pitch can provide inspiration by presenting different creative perspectives side by side.
- It is an opportunity to get to know several agencies in a short period of time.
- And it can confirm that you are choosing the right partner.
At Act-Wise, we are keen to use our experience, local roots and creative approach to build sustainable partnerships. Because ultimately, it’s all about working together to create events that make an impression – with or without a pitch, but always with complete conviction.
So be sure to invite us to participate if you are organising a pitch. However, please also bear in mind the ACC guidelines. They ensure that pitches are fairer, more transparent and more efficient – for all parties.
